So many things around! Perhaps they know of the upcoming storm and are gathering resources in case they can't get out tomorrow either! I know that, at the feeders in my garden, the birds are always more active before a storm. I'm sure that, sometimes, they are able to tell better than the weather forecasters when a storm is coming.
I was going to do a post for a week or maybe two posts a week but I saw so many things on the 1st that I'm sure it deserves its own post!
I got out just as the sun was beginning to rise above the horizon. It was really beautiful
The bluebirds were out and about everywhere in the park - at the birdhouses, down by the lake and along the trails. I love seeing these little birds. They are so colourful against the bleakness of winter.
As I walked through the fields I saw the Cedar Waxwings eating the berries. These birds are another favourite. They really are so colourful too. They have browns, yellows, reds all so subtle. Their feathers look as though they would be really smooth to touch.
The Chickadees were out singing their names Chick-a-dee-dee. If you listen closely you can hear them! For such small birds they have such a lovely song.
The birds weren't the only ones out. There were ice fishermen on the lake again. There have been quite a few of them this winter. I hope they have caught some fish!
As I walked around the lake watching the fisherman move from place to place I could hear a woodpecker drilling against a tree trunk. It wasn't a big woodpecker - just a Downy Woodpecker - but it was making quite the noise!
It was such a lovely walk with sunny skies
Feeding deer
Walking along snow-laden trails
Seeing Robins
And House Finches eating crab apples
A Red-tailed hawk flying overhead
While a Mourning Dove rests in a tree
I
t is mornings like this that I really love walking at the lake. There is so much to see! So many birds to watch, scenery to enjoy and deer to observe. How lucky I am to have such a beautiful place close to my house!
