June 5th - 11th Down by the Lake

The lake views are lovely at this time of year. Everything looks fresh and green, bursting with all different shades of green.

View from the beach out across the lake. This is a favourite view of mine when the lake is calm, and the trees and clouds cast a lovely reflection.

It looks lovely and sunny and it was, but it had been rainy so walking the path down to the beavers' lodge it was filled with puddles.

This is the view adjacent to standing at the beavers' lodge. I love the reflections.

Down at the point.

The view when standing near the beavers' lodge. This tree was one the beavers had downed.

Turning around and looking at the beavers' lodge

Across the lake

Two of the beavers. They can be so quiet as they come to the surface and just float there. Sometimes they turn around silently and seem to stare right at me!

They are still downing trees

And now some of the trees are being wrapped to try to protect them. A lot of the trees that WMU (the caretakers of the preserve) is trying to protect are young oak trees. The beavers at Asylum Lake seem to really like them.

I saw some more snapping turtles this week. They really are quite interesting turtles - but don't get too close!

I find their eyes quite interesting

Close by there are still some Irises growing. Still only yellow ones!

One morning this week it was quite misty out over the lake.

I'm not sure the Osprey flying overhead could see much below! It did a fly-by but didn't do any fishing.

When the mist cleared I could see a female Red-winged Blackbirds catching food to take back to her nest.

There was an Eastern Kingbird trying to catch bugs nearby too

Somedays I just like to sit on one of the downed trees near the beavers' lodge and watch the different birds try to catch food. It's a lovely way to start the morning.
